(from event page) How do you center racial equity throughout the data life cycle?

Data integration by local and state governments is undertaken for the public good: by breaking down program silos, practitioners and policy-makers can address the often interconnected needs of families and communities more effectively and holistically. Yet, the way that cross-sector data are used can also reinforce legacies of racist policies and produce inequitable resource allocation, access, and outcomes.

Since 2019, Actionable Intelligence for Social Policy (AISP) has led a diverse workgroup of civic data stakeholders to co-create strategies and identify best practices to center racial equity throughout the administrative data reuse life cycle. AISP’s new Toolkit for Centering Racial Equity Throughout Data Integration (https://www.aisp.upenn.edu/aisp-toolkit_5-27-20/) includes broad guidance on encouraged and discouraged data access and use and describes positive and problematic practices for centering racial equity across the six stages of the data life cycle.
